English Proficiency
Applicants are required to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), TOEFL Essentials, PTE, Duolingo, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam scores unless they have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a country on our exempt countries list.
The scores below will determine regular admission.
Approved English proficiency exams are valid only up to two years after the date of the exam.

Some programs may require minimum section scores on the TOEF iBT. For more details regarding individual test score requirements, please visit the program's requirement website. Please note MyBest™ Scores from TOEFL are not accepted. Minimum scores will need to be met in a single exam.
English Proficiency Exemption
Applicants who hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an accredited institution in one of the following countries are automatically* exempt from submitting the English language proficiency requirements (TOEFL/IELTS/PTE) for graduate admission consideration:

*Exception: Due to the requirements of the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the following programs do not recognize the exemptions above and would require a degree from an accredited U.S. institution in order to waive the English proficiency requirements for graduate admission consideration.
- All teacher and professional certification programs
- Elementary Education (CMED, Master Math, and TRP only)
- Secondary Education (CMED and TRP only)
- Physical Education (MAC only)
- Special Education (CASE only)
Please Note
If the country in which your degree was earned is not listed above, you must submit a TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or DET exam score for admission. This includes applicants whose only degrees were earned from a university in India, Nepal, Cameroon, or Zimbabwe.
