Dissertation Defenses

One of the degree requirements for students in Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs is the final defense of a dissertation. A defense is an oral examination that includes a public presentation of the research, and an examination/evaluation by the faculty (this portion is closed to the public).

The table below lists the defenses scheduled for the current semester. The public is invited to attend. Students enrolled in Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs might find it particularly helpful to attend so that they know what to expect during a defense. Dissertation defenses may be held in person or virtually via Zoom or Teams. If a dissertation defense is held virtually, you may contact the department for link and log-in information.
