Program Overview

The Masters of Public Health (MPH) is focused on developing public health practitioners who demonstrate competency in the key areas of public health leadership, program development and evaluation, epidemiology, social determinants and public health data science.  The MPH curriculum allows students to pursue advanced-level study in public health competencies while gaining practical experience in a community setting. Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers in state, regional, and local public health departments, non-profit organizations, and other community-based public health institutions.

Course Work

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree prepares students for advanced careers in public health. It provides practical training in foundational public health knowledge and core competencies, while teaching students how to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluation public health programs.

Students will complete core courses in public health competency areas in addition to an internship in a public health setting. The program also allows students to select one of two concentrations: Community Health & Behavior (fully online) or Health Policy & Management (hybrid).  Course work focuses on leadership, program development, evaluation, epidemiology, social determinants of health, applied statistics, and health policy.

Students will also complete a comprehensive examination in the final semester before completing the program. Graduates develop a well-balanced foundation in public health practice and can pursue employment in public health departments, state and federal health agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other community health organizations. Graduates are also eligible to pursue doctoral studies in various areas of public health and health promotion.
