2017 International Research Conference

The Graduate College at Texas State University hosted the Ninth Annual International Research Conference for Graduate Students on November 7-8, 2017.  The conference took place at the LBJ Student Center on the San Marcos campus.

About 150 graduate students from various disciplines at Texas State and other institutions in Texas and beyond presented their research papers and posters.

The conference opened on Tuesday, November 7 with a distinguished research panel consisting of the following award-winning faculty: Dr. Dennis Dunn, regents and university distinguished professor of history and director of the Center for International Studies; Dr. Paige Haber-Curran, associate professor and coordinator of student affairs in higher education graduate program; Dr. Todd Hudnall, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry; and Dr. Nico Schüler, university distinguished professor of music theory and musicology. This was followed by a reception and poster session.

Adam Key, speech instructor and director of the Prison Debate Program at the Huntsville Center, Lee College, was the keynote speaker on Wednesday, November 8. His talk was titled, “In the First Degree: The Challenges and Benefits of Postsecondary Prison Education.” The talk also reflects Texas State’s 2017-2018 Common Experience theme, “The Search for Justice: Our Response to Crime in the 21st Century.” Awards were presented to the winners of the research contest. Joslyn Johnson, doctoral student in adult, professional, and community education, won top paper in the doctoral category and Ramin Sabbagh, master’s student in technology management, won the top paper in the master’s category.
