Mark Moore, International Graduate Admissions Specialist, was honored at the Texas State vs. Louisiana football game on Saturday, November 26, at Bobcat Stadium for his commitment to The Graduate College.
Mark has served six years in this role and is an alumnus of Texas State, having earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master’s of education degree in history. Of a team of five admissions specialists in The Graduate College, Mark is the only admissions specialist dedicated to processing international applications across all 100+ graduate programs.
An aspect of Mark’s job includes understanding grade scales that are used to provide an explanation of grades provided by international educational institutions. To illustrate the number of international students applying to programs in the United States, Mark shared that “over the last six years, roughly 1,700 grade scales have been made to convert international programs to the U.S. system. That’s 1,700 scales for universities and programs all across the world.” To further put international enrollment at the graduate level into perspective, 13.2% of Texas State graduate students are international students, according to Institutional Research data for the fall 2022 semester.
Although Mark is the only dedicated international admissions specialist, he is thankful for the entire graduate admissions team who steps up to help him process the large number of international applications that are submitted to The Graduate College each semester. “I could never have handled the influx of international applications without [the other admissions specialists],” Mark said.
Mark enjoys helping international students during the admissions process and after they have been admitted to their program. Shortly after Mark started in the position, he helped create the Academic Success for International Students event that supports international graduate students transitioning to the American higher education system. This event is still held by The Graduate College in collaboration with International Student and Scholar Services once an academic year. This event also includes a virtual component that international graduate students can refer back to throughout their academic journey at Texas State.
“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing international students thrive,” Mark shared. “Hearing about their successes on campus is my greatest joy in this job.”
The Graduate College congratulates Mark on his outstanding service to Texas State international applicants and is proud to have him on the team!
